The Barrientos Scholarship Foundation has been dedicated to empowering Latino students in Nebraska since its founding.
Committed to our students
Through financial support, mentorship, and community engagement, the foundation provides opportunities for higher education to those who might otherwise lack access. By focusing on academic excellence and leadership potential, the Barrientos Scholarship Foundation awards scholarships and fosters personal and professional growth. This commitment to education ensures that Latino students can contribute meaningfully to their communities and pursue long-term success.
The Barrientos Scholarship Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit based in Omaha, Nebraska, is dedicated to reducing the financial burden on Latino students who have demonstrated academic excellence, community service, and personal ambition. Since its founding in 2005, the foundation has awarded over $335,000 in scholarships to students in the Greater Omaha area. With a passionate volunteer board, the foundation operates with minimal overhead, directing the majority of its funds to scholarships and student support.
A Legacy of Opportunity
The Barrientos Scholarship Foundation was established to honor the legacy of Miguel Barrientos, whose roots in Omaha began in the 1920s when he immigrated from Mexico. The family's journey represents resilience, sacrifice, and the pursuit of a better life through education. Inspired by this legacy, Marcos Mora founded the Barrientos Scholarship Foundation to honor his heritage and give back to the Latino community. By investing in the educational dreams of young Latino students, the foundation carries forward the family’s commitment to opportunity and growth.
